A number of statistical records highlighting a common conclusion that reduction of idling sound of the Saw Blades at the workplace generates a productive and healthy environment. It involves a set of modified designs and some useful tips for the worker to avoid noise.

Noise and Operation can never be separated. Workers have to use saw blades, cutting of the wood, grinding, use of huge machinery, hence they have to face a myriad of noise types which can exacerbate their physical, and emotional health hence employers have to make sure the little exposure of noise with employees.

Noise at the workplace can give rise to an unhealthy environment and lead to less productivity, and simultaneously can produce drastic effects on the workers’ health, hence it is crucial to reduce the noise as much as possible. If you are an employer and or an employee, below are some useful measures for you to take!

At the workplace, employees have the most Interaction with blades, they use them to cut wood, bricks, glass, coal balls, marble, and several other things, but at the end of the day, the continuous sound, hitting their eardrums, annoys them badly. Normal circular blades, in every factory or business place, generate the sound between 85dB to 140dB, and the frequency of the sound is enough to start destruction within the body. The most used blades type within the industries is “Circular Saw Blades”, they even in an idle state, due to the vibration, and the interaction of the air produce the sound of almost 95dB.

The vibration is produced between the teeth of the blade and the gaps among the teeth, the larger the size of the teeth the greater frequency sound is emitted. The air interaction produces a hissing sound of almost 20dB and continuous ringing which may sound annoying to the ears for long hours. Besides the sound emitted when the air hits, when employees use circular blades to cut anything, they produce enormous noise, it again depends on the size of the blades being used to cut the piece, if the size is smaller, less sound will be produced, and vice versa.

But the questions are, what harmful effects does the sound of blades produce and how can we reduce the noise at the workplace to make it healthy and productive for the employees?

There’s no escape for the workers from the noise, it’s a part of any industrial and manufacturing business area but employers can adopt clever techniques to reduce the sound.

What are the harmful impacts of the Saw Blade Noise on the Employees?

  1. Weakens the Hearing

No matter what type of industry you work in, if there’s a use of saw blades for cutting materials, then there’s more possibility for the weakened sense of hearing over time. The unpleasant sound continuously hits the eardrums and induces changes in the ability of a worker to hear sharply.

  • Disturbs Mood

Long day work under the influence of the unpleasant saw blade sound can disturb the mental condition of both employees and employers, can cause mood swings, make employees peevish, and reduce the ability to think as well. Brain, if it does not function properly then it affects the other bodily system too.

Those, who serves most of the hours at the industrial place, are likely to get stress and digestion issues, and the productivity level decreases with time. However, the workers used to get acute episodic headaches which due to persistent noise effects transform into chronic migraine

  • Low Efficacy

Over the period of a certain time, Saw Blades’ noise works as the stimulant, which induces changes in the mental health by altering and blocking certain neurotransmitters, destroys emotional wellbeing, and even produces terrible effects on the physical health to lower the efficacy of an individual to the work and other productive tasks. The continuous exposure of the unpleasant sound to the ear can even shorten your life, doesn’t let you think out of the box, irks you badly, makes you annoyed on tiny issues, reduces the distance between you and the depression.

However, the physical changes include obesity, irritability, constipation, and a high morbidity rate.

  • Weaken the Immune System

The quality of life is at great risk for the employees in the industry. When the irritability in the mood increases in response to a certain stimulus i.e. noise, the stress hormone productivity also increases. Stress hormone induces fight and flight response which requires a great sum of blood glucose, when blood glucose level increases, simultaneously, the pressure also increases. These two increased factors don’t let the body fight off the illness.

  • Sleep Disturbance

That’s the obvious thing when the brain is relaxed, you’ll get relaxed and deep sleep at night but unpleasant noise can never let your brain get in the relaxed mode. Outside noise never destroys the quality of the night’s sleep and makes you wake up several times, and this increases the exhaustion.

Tips to reduce the Noise of Saw Blade at Workplace

Reduction of Noise with Circular Saw Blade

One of the most preferred solutions has been given ever is using Circular Saw Blade with small teeth, less number of teeth, with wide gaps among the teeth, and a wide range of design of the circular saw blades have been proposed for the reduction of the noise at the industrial level where employees have long and daily interaction with noise.

Employers can also eliminate the use of saw blades if they purchase prefabricated material going to be used for the manufacturing of the product or can implement the quieter cutting procedure by using a power hack saw and other tools.

One experimental study that the dominant factor to generate the power in circular Saw blades is “Blade tip Speed”. However, not all circular blades are the same with the same power; there are variations of teeth design, blade thickness, the gullet-teeth shape of the blade, which produce the sound of different frequencies.

Other Preferred Solutions

  1. There are now digital noise barriers and blankets available on the market, you can have it to build a healthy environment. They will help you overcome the increased noise.
  2. Make sure that each of the employees keeps an ear protector tool with him.
  3. Similar to the Noise barriers, you may also go with choosing Acoustic tents which reduce the frequency of the noise to make them bearable for the ears.
  4. Another good solution is keeping the saw blade wet during cutting, this is how you’d be able to reduce the noise pollution, prevent overheating, and also would be able to protect your face and revealed organs from dust, wood, metal, and other material, but keep your safety measures first.
  5. When the blades get older, they produce more noise, hence, maintenance is crucial. Lubricate the blades and machinery overtime to avoid damages and noise pollution.

Employers, if they don’t look for the tips to keep their employees’ health and safety first, they will not be able to generate a healthy, easy, and productive environment for the workers, and this can lead to only LOSS! Hence, understand how important it is to reduce the noise of Saw Blade at the workplace and must implement the mentioned techniques for welfare.
